Getting Started

Compassionate, Personalized Care from Your First Step Forward

Beginning therapy is an investment in your well-being, relationships, and future. At Rise Psychology, the process is collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to your unique needs—whether you're seeking individual support or couples therapy.

Step 1: Schedule a Complimentary Phone Consultation

If you’re an adult residing in Washington or Oregon, you’re invited to schedule a free 25-minute phone consultation with Dr. Lauren Helm. This is an opportunity to briefly discuss what’s bringing you to therapy, ask questions, and determine whether working together feels like a good fit.

You can request a consultation directly through the secure online scheduling portal by clicking “Book Appointment.”

Step 2: Comprehensive Assessment & Goal Setting

Your first few sessions will focus on getting to know you and understanding the full context of what you’re facing. This includes your current concerns, history, values, and hopes for change.

  • In individual therapy, the assessment process explores emotional, cognitive, relational, and behavioral patterns to clarify what’s keeping you stuck—and what supports growth.

  • In couples therapy, the process includes an initial one or two joint sessions, then individual meetings with each partner, and a feedback session to share insights and set shared goals for the work ahead.

This thoughtful beginning helps ensure that treatment is grounded in your values, strengths, and real-world challenges.

Step 3: Active, Evidence-Based Therapy Sessions

Once therapy is underway, sessions are personalized and collaborative. Dr. Helm draws from research-supported approaches—including CBT, ACT, Exposure Therapy, the Unified Protocol, EFT, IBCT, Gottman Method, and mindfulness-based interventions—to support meaningful, sustainable progress.

Therapy may focus on:

  • Building emotional resilience and coping skills

  • Shifting unhelpful patterns in thinking, behavior, or relationships

  • Deepening self-understanding and alignment with your values

  • Strengthening connection, communication, and emotional safety in your relationship

Sessions are held via a secure telehealth platform, offering flexibility and access from the comfort of your chosen space.

Step 4: Ongoing Evaluation & Growth

Progress is continuously assessed and discussed together to ensure your goals are being met. As your needs evolve, the focus of therapy can shift—making space for deeper insight, skill-building, or new areas of exploration.

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, OCD, burnout, life transitions, or relationship challenges, therapy at Rise Psychology is designed to grow with you.

Rise Psychology offers expert, evidence-based therapy online throughout Washington and Oregon—helping you move toward clarity, connection, and lasting change.
